MUSICAL THEATRE COURSE DETAILS
Exciting musicals will be staged starring boys and girls aged 7 to 11. Performers will take part in acting workshops as well as singing rehearsals where songs are learnt.
Dance routines are added ensuring all participants have the chance to sing, dance and act in the show. An action-packed, musical will be presented at the end of the course which family and friends are invited to come and see.
The course will be led by two teachers, our director/choreographer and musical director. It will still be possible for children to focus on acting or singing in particular.
Rehearsals will ensure that all children will take part in the creative activities that they wish to be part of. If anyone is not happy to sing they will be given more acting to focus on.
Similarly if a child does not want to act but really enjoys singing and/or dancing then they will have the chance to be part of the musical rehearsals.
WHAT IS THE MUSICAL THEATRE COURSE?
Musical Theatre is a fun-filled course comprising specialised performing arts activities. We aim to develop children's self-confidence, performance skills, focus and concentration, while introducing them to the vibrancy of musical theatre. A range of carefully selected drama and singing games and technique exercises ensure that all children have the opportunity to build their self-confidence, along with performance and voice technique.
An exciting Musical Theatre Show is rehearsed during the week for presentation to parents in the theatre at the end of the course. All Musical Theatre Shows aim to be ensembles, where parts and lines are distributed as equally as possible among the children.
Musical Theatre courses are taught by qualified Drama teachers, along with a dedicated Music Director, and a teaching assistant. The maximum number of children in a group each day is 17, and friends will be placed in the same group if requested. Our aim is for children to develop their communication and performance skills and inspire their imagination within the framework of a safe, nurturing, creative environment.
WHO IS THE MUSICAL THEATRE COURSE FOR?
Musical Theatre is for children in school years Y2-Y6 (6-11 years). If we have more than one Musical Theatre group, children will be allocated by their age.
WHAT DOES A DAY AT A MUSICAL THEATRE COURSE LOOK LIKE?
On Monday - Thursday, children can be dropped off from 9.30am each day, for a 10am start. Collection is at 3pm. On Friday, Show Day, please drop-off from 9am for a 9.30am start. Children have dedicated time each day with my Drama teacher for drama technique and rehearsals, as well as with the Musical Director, for singing rehearsals.
Our Show times are as follows; please note, some weeks we have one Musical Theatre group, and sometimes we have two. If we have only one Group, the Show time will be as Musical Theatre One.
Musical Theatre Group One: Parents should arrive at 1.30pm for a 1.45pm Show, which will finish at approx 2.15pm.
Musical Theatre Group Two: Parents should arrive at 2.15pm for a 2.30pm Show, which will finish at approx 3pm.
Please note, Show times may be subject to change, and we will confirm final Show times the week of the course.
Morning activities: 10am - approx 12pm
Lunch: approx 12pm - 12.30pm
Afternoon activities: approx 12.30pm - 3pm
WHAT IS THE MUSICAL THEATRE COURSE DROP-OFF AND COLLECTION PROCEDURE?
Children can be dropped off from 9.30am Monday - Thursday, and from 9am on Friday. Upon arrival, your child will be taken to their Musical Theatre teacher, who will mark them in on the register.
At collection, children will wait in the room with Dramarama assistants for parents and carers to collect them at the door. Please advise in advance if other adults apart from yourself will be collecting your child. Upon arrival, please tell us your child's full name, and they will be brought to you - it is not possible for parents to come in the school building for collection. Please ensure that all carers dropping-off or collecting your child are aware of these procedures.
WHAT SHOULD CHILDREN BRING TO THE COURSE?
Please provide a nut-free packed lunch each day, and please ensure all lunch items are named. Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to warm food, and cannot provide tableware or cutlery.
On occasion we have children attending our courses with extreme airborne food allergies. If there are any food items that need to be avoided in packed lunches, we will email all parents the week before the course. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
You may also provide a small, named, nut-free, mid-morning snack.
Children should wear comfortable clothing - please ensure that all removable clothing, such as cardigans, hoodies and jackets, are named.
As children rehearse throughout the week for a Show on Friday afternoon, they will be provided with a script, to practise their lines, cues and song lyrics. Please ensure that your child brings their script and lyrics back with them each day.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: My child has never attended a holiday course before - do I have to enrol for the whole week?
A: Children are booked in to Musical Theatre for a week, for £160. In all cases, new children can start with a paid trial day initially, for £45, to see how they like it. We hold a place for the rest of the week should they wish to continue. We also offer three day Drama Workshops, Monday - Wednesday, for those children aged 5 - 10 years who cannot attend for a full week.
Q: I'd like my child to attend the next Musical Theatre course - when do I need to book?
A: Our Performing Arts courses book very quickly, and we have a limited number of places available for each course. Unfortunately, we cannot increase our capacity each week, as we can only accommodate four Performing Arts Shows every Friday afternoon. To avoid disappointment, please reserve your child's place as soon as possible. Payment for the course is due up to a month before the start date, however we may request payment sooner if the course becomes full. Children's places are only fully confirmed once an online booking form has been completed, and full payment has been made.
Q: I need to pick my child up early one day. How do I arrange this?
A: Please complete an Early Collection Form, on the morning of early collection, or one of the mornings before if possible, and return it to Jessica Grant, or a member of the Dramarama team.
Q: My child has school friends also attending. Can they all be together?
A: Yes, of course! We will always ensure that friends are in the same group. Please let the office team know the names of other friends also joining us, as we do not automatically know which schools the children attend.
Q: My child's sibling is also attending Musical Theatre. Will they be in the same group?
A: Where possible, and depending on their age, siblings are placed together - however, if we have more than one Musical Theatre group, children are allocated places by their age/school year, which may mean that siblings are not in the same group.
Q: What Show will my child be performing?
A: As we have a high number of children who return to Dramarama every holiday course, we are especially mindful not to repeat content. As such, we do not confirm the course Show until a week before the start date. Please note, in all cases, Show content is subject to change at Dramarama's discretion.
Q: Can I speak to my child's Dramarama teacher about their progress?
A: You are welcome to have a brief chat with your child's Drama teacher before or after the course, however, please be aware that these are very busy times for the teachers, whose prime concern will be to register/give back the children in a calm and safe manner. Be assured that if my teaching staff have any concerns at all for your child's wellbeing during the day - e.g. if they are unwell; if they do not appear happy to join in; if they seem generally 'out of sorts' - we will contact you immediately. If you are not be contacted during the day, this means that everything is going very well! We do not provide written reports for children's activities during the day.
Q: What happens if I make a payment and my child can't attend?
A: We are happy to provide a credit note, valid for up to a year, for the value of the course booked.
